XiaoYu XiuTu — Manual

1. Install & uninstall

The wizard lets you choose the install folder (default %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\XiaoYuXiuTu); your projects and settings live in %APPDATA%\小雨修图 and are never touched by upgrades or uninstalls.

To uninstall, use Settings → Apps → XiaoYu XiuTu, or run uninstall.bat inside the install folder (removes the app only).

2. First launch

• The onboarding tour opens automatically (17 steps, four phases: interface → open & basic editing → retouching → layers / export / batch). Replay it any time via Help → Onboarding.
• Ctrl+O opens a project or image; Ctrl+I imports into the current project; you can also drag files onto the window.
• Ctrl+F searches every command.

3. Window layout

4. Opening files & formats

Import

JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF (uncompressed / PackBits / LZW / Deflate / JPEG), HEIC/HEIF (bundled decoder, offline), RAW (DNG / CR2 / NEF / ARW … via LibRaw), JPEG XL (.jxl), PSD (groups, masks, clipping masks, layer effects; RGB / grayscale / indexed / CMYK — non-RGB is converted to RGB automatically).

Export

PNG, JPEG, WebP, PSD (multi-layer), PDF, HEIC, AVIF.

Projects

Projects are saved as .comp (layers, masks, paths, history settings). Autosave restores after a crash.

6. Selections & masks

• Ctrl+A select all, Ctrl+D deselect, Shift+Ctrl+I invert, Shift+F6 feather.
• Quick mask (Q) — paint to refine the selection.
• Color range and Select skin tones (portrait shortcut, feathered).
• Select and mask for hair and edges; expand/contract for fine tuning.
• Masks: black hides, white shows; vector masks follow the path; clipping masks clip a layer to the one below.

7. Layers

• Groups, blend modes, opacity, lock, visibility, duplicate / merge / stamp visible.
• Adjustment layers are non-destructive; smart objects keep the original pixels and support smart filters you can reorder or switch off.
• Layer effects: drop shadow, outer glow, inner shadow, inner glow, stroke, color overlay, gradient overlay, bevel & emboss, satin.

8. Color

Image → Adjustments, or add an adjustment layer: brightness/contrast, levels, curves, exposure, vibrance, hue/saturation (HSL), color balance, selective color, channel mixer, black & white, photo filter, gradient map, posterize and more.

9. Filters

17 filters: Gaussian blur, motion blur, add noise, vignette, glow, jitter, scan lines, tonal contrast, unsharp mask, emboss, find edges, oil paint, plus Clarity, Dehaze, Orton glow and Film grain. There is a filter preset library, LUT (.cube) support and sky replacement.

10. Portrait retouching

11. Healing tools

• Spot healing: single click for blemishes.
• Healing brush: Alt-sample then paint — takes low-frequency color from the source while keeping target texture.
• Clone stamp: Alt-sample then copy.
• Content-aware fill: Edit → Fill → Content-aware (local computation).

12. Liquify & transform

• Filter → Liquify with live preview and four presets.
• Ctrl+T free transform: Shift keeps proportions, Alt scales from center.

13. Batch & pipelines

1. File → Batch pipeline: chain import → portrait → filters → resize → watermark → export.
2. Choose input (optionally recursive) and output folders; per-file success/failure and processed steps are listed; cancel any time.
3. Presets can be saved / renamed / exported and imported (.json); built-in presets include portrait output, ID photo and "convert only".
4. RAW and HEIC input are supported; watermarks can be text or an image, positioned on a 3×3 grid.

14. Export

• File → Export: choose format and quality; output size presets are original / long edge 2560 / 1920 / 1080, plus 2× / 3× upscaling.
• EXIF and ICC are written back (can be disabled in Settings).
• PSD multi-layer export keeps groups, masks and clipping masks; layer effects are baked into pixels.

16. Settings

• Undo memory budget: 128 MB – 2 GB (large files with many steps need more).
• RAW import: white balance, exposure compensation, half-size decode.
• Cloud AI: your own API key (OpenAI-compatible / remove.bg). Leave empty to use local features only.
• Export: whether to write EXIF back, default quality.

18. Plugins

Manage plugins from the Plugins menu. Plugins are lightweight: a whitelisted API gives them the current canvas and menu entries only — no file access, no network — and they run sandboxed, so a broken plugin cannot take the app down.

19. Troubleshooting

• "Unknown publisher" — no code-signing certificate; click "More info → Run anyway".
• A HEIC file won't open — some variants (10-bit, multi-image containers) aren't supported; convert to JPEG first.
• PSD won't open — Lab / bitmap / duotone / multichannel are not supported and say so; CMYK is converted to RGB.
• Large files feel slow — close other projects/apps, raise the undo memory budget.
• AI features fail — check the API key and network in Settings; local features need no network.
• Copy image does nothing — the system clipboard is focus-sensitive; click the app window first.
• Project won't open / crash — reopen the app; the autosaved project is restored.

20. Feedback

XiaoYu XiuTu is a one-person project. Anything awkward, missing or ugly — tell the author:

Include what you were trying to do, where you clicked, what happened, and the image format / rough size — it makes problems much easier to pin down.
